Hickman's State Report Card 2009

For Hickman School the report card contains information about the school demographics on a profile page, and additional pages to describe No Child Left Behind Progress, Academic Achievement, Tennessee Value Added Data, Attendance, and Discipline. This is a summary of Hickman School’s academic information.

This information can be found online at http://edu.reportcard.state.tn.us/pls/apex/f?p=200:30:3618526286498042::NO

Note:   The 2009 baseline provides a fixed transition point prior to the 2009-10 school year implementations of the new curriculum standards and assessments more reflective of national and international student performance in the 21st Century. The 2009 achievement scores and all grades connected with these scores are considered the new baseline for future public reporting. These converted achievement scores and grades are based on restructured calculations and a redefined grade scale that are updated to reflect the current status of educational attainment in the state. The 2009 change has prohibited comparisons to previous years’ data for achievement reporting including state, district, and school-level scores and grades. For 2009 only, the most appropriate and meaningful comparsion would be to State level data.

We need your help!
Always write an excuse when your child returns to school after an absence. Also, it is very important that the children are on time each day and do not leave before 3:00.
  • Reading – please let your child read each school night at home for at least 10 minutes. Our students need to read fluently, which means they decode words easily, read aloud smoothly, and understand the content.
  • Math – please let your child practice basic math facts at home each night for about 5 minutes. Flashcards are very helpful.
    • Kindergarten students need to be able to recognize numbers to 100.
    • First grade students need to know the addition and subtraction facts to sums of 10.
    • Second grade students need to know the addition and subtraction facts to sums of 18.
    • Third grade students need to know the multiplication facts for multipliers up to 12.
  • Fourth grade students need to know the division facts for divisors up to 12.
Tennessee State Standards provide the framework for the skills and content that our students are learning. You can see these learning objectives posted at the school or on the state website http://www.tennessee.gov/education/ci/standards/blueprint/ .

We value your suggestions on how to improve the services we provide. Please let us know your thoughts. In January the school will send you an updated report of our students’ achievement based on the formative assessments conducted during the first semester for all grade levels.
